7 Day Reset

1 / The Kitchen Audit

Check the ingredient labels of all foods in your pantry and freezer. If an ingredient contains the word "phosphate" it’s off limits for this week. Examples include: sodium phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, sodium acid pyrophosphate.

2 / Practical Swaps

You don’t have to give up the foods you love; you just need to swap the brands.

  • Bread: Swap sliced bread for fresh bakery bread or brands like Arnold’s or Dave’s Killer Bread. Choose brioche buns over potato buns.

  • Cookies: Swap Chips Ahoy for Tate’s Bake Shop cookies or Milanos.

  • Meats: Choose fresh meats instead of deli meats.

  • Tortillas: Swap wheat tortillas for corn tortillas.

  • Milk: Swap oat milk for almond or lactaid milk.

3 / The 7 Day Commitment

You can keep eating your favorite foods like pizza, burgers, pasta and dessert. Just use our phosphate-free swaps to stay 100% on track. Commit to zero phosphates for one week and watch your reflux symptoms disappear.

Wait! Check your Medicine Cabinet

Believe it or not, some medications used to treat reflux actually contain the phosphates that trigger it.

  • Tums: Swap these for Gaviscon or Alka-Seltzer. (Tums often contain sodium polyphosphate as an inactive ingredient).

  • Pseudoephedrine: Check the "Inactive Ingredients" on the back of the box. Name-brand Sudafed is usually a safe, phosphate-free choice.

  • GLP-1s (like Zepbound): These often contain phosphates. While we don't know if injecting phosphates triggers reflux the same way as ingesting them, these medications are known for high rates of reflux side effects.
